Located on Steingasse on the outskirts of the medieval town of Treysa, the Heilig-Geist-Hospital was founded before 1367 as a municipal welfare institution. In 1386 the Treysaer chaplain Konrad Vogelsänger bequeathed his possessions to the hospital, of which he was appointed guardian and rector. Since then, the office of the hospital superintendent was linked to that of the chaplain of the hospital chapel. Since the Reformation, the administration of the hospital has been subordinate to the first pastor, the mayor and the city council.
