The most famous burial mound in our area is the construction of two graves near Schwalmstadt-Wiera. The term “megalithic grave”, which is often used for this, is of a purely colloquial nature and has no temporal or scientific reference. The name stems from the earlier idea that under the sometimes quite large hills there are “giants”, that is, giants or very stately people.

The burial mound of Wiera is an archaeological site from the Middle Bronze Age (1700-1200 BC). It is one of the most important sites from this time in northern Hesse. The excavated burial mound is of particular archaeological importance due to the rare stone pillar circles. So far only similar finds can be found in Hesse and Westphalia.
