Frederick William III was born in 1770 and was apparently a rather shy child. He preferred to speak concisely, in an almost military style. At the age of 23, he married the 17-year-old Princess Louise of Mecklenburg. They had ten children together. In 1797, Frederick William ascended the throne. The new king wanted nothing to do with his father's intrigues and affairs.
