Peter Stump (* 1525; † October 31, 1589 in Bedburg), or Peter Stubbe, also known as Stubbe- or Stübbe-Peter, was accused in the best-known werewolf trial that took place in German-speaking countries at the time.[1] He was accused in Epprath and Bedburg in the Rhineland, during a period of 25 years, of having committed at least 16 murders in the guise of a werewolf. He was also accused of rape, cannibalism and incest, as well as magic and living with a "devil". Found guilty on October 28, 1589, he was executed by wheeling and beheading a few days later. His body was then cremated.
