The Peringsmaar is an artificial lake in an opencast mining hole on the reclamation area of the Fortuna-Garsdorf mine. The lake is colloquially called "Peringssee".
The water is refilled by RWE Power with pumped groundwater, a connection to the Erft is under construction.
The area is, unlike agricultural recultivation areas, left to itself. It is involved in the road of energy. Through the area lead numerous cycling and hiking trails.

The Peringmaar is worth seeing both as a recreational area as well as a biotope.

Dreamlike and apparently not overcrowded by humans. Perfect for staying and watching nature. But keep your eyes open for swans on the shore. Then you better go to one of the other shore areas.
