In the summit area, the Wendener Stein bears an incomparable 36 meter long, 9 meter wide and 15 meter high natural phyllite slate rock, a protected natural monument and geotope. A bench has been cut into another rock for hikers. On the west side is the small Mariengrotte.

The sunny rock with stone bench is a natural monument. 20 m SW is the Madonna in a rock niche. Below the edge of the forest is a rest area with a beautiful view.

The little figure of Mary had been standing in the grotto between Kleinwendern and Marktredwitz since the mid-1970s, many of them know it and some people occasionally hiked to Wendener Stein to lay flowers there. Alfons Heindl looked after and cleaned the area around the grotto. And as macabre as it sounds, it has only been possible to shed some light on its origins since the statue disappeared and was destroyed.

A newspaper article about the broken glass found Rita Rodehau from Marktredwitz on the Madonna. She recognized the figure as the Madonna, before whom she had to pray and do penance in a small room of her grandparents as a child.

Thus the trail led 120 years back to the Steinkirchner family in Marktredwitz, where the Madonna adorned a house altar. Pious women met regularly here for Bible study and prayer. In 1949 the grotto on Wendener Stein was built by this district, the Madonna figure came to this place about 25 years later. Donations have meanwhile been used to purchase a stable grille for the small grotto on Wendener-Stein, so that the statue will be better protected from vandals in the future.

Since the mid-70s, the little figure of Mary stood in the grotto between Kleinwendern and Marktredwitz, many know her and many wandered occasionally to Wendener stone to lay flowers there. Alfons Heindl took care of and cleaned the area around the grotto. And as macabre as it sounds: only since the disappearance and the destruction of the statue, some light could be brought into their origins.

Through a newspaper article about the Scherbenfund Rita Rodehau from Marktredwitz had become aware of the Madonna. She recognized the figure as the Madonna, before whom she had to pray as a child in a small room of her grandparents and repent.

Thus, the track led 120 years back to the Marktredwitzer family Steinkirchner, where the Madonna adorned a house altar. Here pious women regularly met for Bible study and prayer. In 1949 the grotto at Wendener Stein was built by this group of houses, the Madonna figure came to this place about 25 years later. Through donations, a sturdy grid for the small grotto on Wendener-Stein has been purchased, so that the statue will be better protected from vandals in the future.

Very nice place with a small shrine below the rock wall and bench to linger.

Kleinwendern bei Bad Alexandersbad is the first village in Bavaria to receive the certificate of recognition as an "ark village" and is now bearing this title. Nationwide, Kleinwendern is now the second town to receive this title, and soon it will also appear on the town signs. The reason for this is the constant efforts of the villagers to keep old and endangered animal breeds alive and in their population.

The grotto is beautiful and the weathering unique for me. Have seen those in Lourdes during the soldier's pilgrimage, and this here is the original to the point. Like a little faithful copy. A big movie theater

Huge rock accessible by a broken staircase.
View is also limited from the top.

Absolutely great rock. The steps are relatively slippery in bad weather ... Still totally beautiful here. So far, I totally missed it.
