The Astronomical Clock, a Renaissance masterpiece, is the result of a collaboration between artists, mathematicians and technicians. Watchmakers from Switzerland, sculptors, painters and automaton manufacturers worked hand in hand here. The current clockwork dates from 1842.

The main attraction of the clock is its figure game, whose figure machines start moving every day at 12.30 p.m. At this hour you see the different stages of life - personified as a child, a young person, an adult and an old man - parade past death. Further up you can see the apostles passing in front of Christ. Their orbit is accompanied by the flapping of wings and crowing of a large rooster. The magnificent angel pillar rises in front of the clock, symbolizing the Last Judgment in its own unique way.

The original medieval clock was completely redesigned in the 19th century and has unique functions:
The clock displays the orbits of the Earth, the Moon, and the planets from Mercury to Saturn. Most astonishing is the gear train, which runs on New Year's Eve and calculates the base date for the movable holidays.

An impressive, very large, and beautifully designed technical masterpiece.
