This wonderful museum is housed in part of the fortifications of Neuf-Brisach. The €10 entrance fee (as of 2023) is well worth it. If you're very lucky, you might even see one of the artists at work.

MAUSA Vauban is a vibrant museum of urban and street art, spanning nearly 1200 m², which has been open since July 7, 2018, operating in a progressive format within the UNESCO-listed walls of the historic Neuf-Brisach fortress, built by Vauban between 1698 and 1704.

The museum is closed from November to the end of April.

The museum is located in the basement of the Belfort Gate and was inaugurated in 1957. Numerous exhibits document the history of the city, from its creation to the present day.
A relief plan of the city, with audio commentary and light animation, explains the architecture and construction of the fortress. The relief plan is an exact replica of the original plan deposited in the "Musée des Invalides" in Paris.
The museum exhibits both fortress plans and documents on construction techniques: plans of the city, the four gates, the armory, the barracks and the church. Also on display: a replica of Vauban's bust by Coysevox, various paintings with the builder and the city governors, documents, pictures of the siege of 1870 and the Second World War.
