In the vicinity of the Nattehofstraat you will find the Bethaniënpolder neighborhood. The name refers to the former monastery of Bethany. This monastery was founded just before 1421 and grew into a flourishing and culturally advanced community. Its buildings fell prey to the demolition hammer in 1578, during the religious wars. The sisters would eventually start again within the city walls, namely in Schoutetstraat. In 1783 their monastery was finally abolished.

Former Monastery of Bethany (1588) built in Late Classicist Style was converted into Posthoorn Brewery 1810.
Historical interpretation: Formerly the court of Schout Willem de Clerck, who ceded his lands to the monastery of Bethany in 1588. These monks were initially located outside the Adegempoort. After the total destruction of their buildings in 1572 and 1578, they moved into this court in 1588. Disinfected during the French Revolution; Part of the building was acquired by J.F. after public sale in 1810. Scheppers who converted it into a brewery "De Posthoorn".
