The detour to the Fürstenbrunnen is always a must for us - at the start of the tour to fill up the fresh spring water and at the end to give your feet a refreshment just like Kneipp. It is a place of rest to gather and pause.

A well-known and popular destination for hikers from Jena and the surrounding area is the Fürstenbrunnen. The Fürstenbrunnen is a spring area in the beautiful Pennickental at the foot of the Johannisberge.
This small spring area owes its name to history, which says that here in September 1552 the Saxon Elector Johann Friedrich I took a break on one of his popular hunting trips. The edging of the source that can be seen today goes back to Baron von Ziegenar, who had it made in this form in 1832 as the owner at that time.

Because of the shallow water in which children like to play, the picnic area and the shady location, the Fürstenbrunnen is a popular hiking destination - here you are rarely alone.

After his release from captivity, the elector was welcomed here by students and professors from Jena.
So it is carved in stone on a plaque next to the spring .....

Nicely located rest area at a supposedly historical place. From here you can continue hiking on various hiking trails or the Fürstenbrunnen can be reached via various paths.

From the Fürstenbrunnen in the valley you can hike to the stone cross or in the other direction past the summer linden tree to the Lobdeburg. Great highlight with benches for a short rest.
