The year 1738 is carved next to the mirror monogram of Elector Karl Philipp above the lintel. A staircase leads down to the spring, which was built over with the fountain house. For a long time, the Mannheim Palace was supplied with water from here. Every night, over a hundred mules carried the water in hoses on their backs in long columns to Mannheim, 25 kilometers away. No suitable spring had been found in the swampy subsoil there.
