Towering over the Steinwald Nature Park, the Weissenstein castle ruins are enthroned. It originally dates from the 11th century and was used until around 1550 as Ganerbenburg (which is almost a "multi-family castle"). Then it decayed, but was extensively renovated in recent years. The keep (863 m above sea level) offers a magnificent view of the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe: from the Upper Palatinate Forest far into the Bohemian Forest and the Ore Mountains the view extends.

A visit to the castle ruins in the Steinwald is always impressive. In 1997 it was restored stone by stone by the Steinwaldia Pullenreuth association. Since then it has shone in new splendor.

We were there with the children - absolutely recommendable, but the children should be free from giddiness: the steep staircase to the keep is not without! The children liked the hike from the parking lot as well as the sightseeing of the ruin! Absolute holiday highlight!
