The name refers to the former bird and pigeon trade that regularly took place here.
The square is centrally located in the Old Town, near the town square, and is surrounded by historic facades and small shops.
Today, it is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors – with cafés, events, and access to cultural highlights such as the Brothausturm (Bread House Tower) and the local history museum.

The fountain depicts a bird trader with a basket and doves, a tribute to this former trade.
