After the basilica was built in 1876, the church was almost forgotten and completely abandoned. Successively the choir threatens to collapse, a section of wall collapses and the church is definitively closed in 1896, considered too dangerous and irreparable. In 1897, the situation changed and the municipal council decided to keep it completely, and an architect took over the restoration project which began in 1900 and lasted 5 years. Today the church is still active.
