Thanks to the relatively good ("dry") weather forecast, I was able to do a slightly longer ride today:



A first climb up the Kreuzweg/Sirnitz valley through the small Wiesental was the first real ascent in a long time. Somewhere along the way, a very nice man named Julius caught up with me, and we rode

There are nicer things than cycling in the rain. But there are also worse things, like never cycling at all.



I had seriously planned to go for a long ride today, bundled up in rain gear; but the predicted temperatures made me reconsider.



Instead, I did my usual route again, this time counter-clockwise

The goal was to be home about an hour before the move started. That way, I could get to my front door, right in the middle of everything, without any problems.



Success!



Today could have been a record on my usual route, it went so smoothly and easily. But: The sensibly chosen walking pace through Steinen

After the rain this morning, the sun unexpectedly came out, and the later partly cloudy sky promised continued dry weather.



So, instead of having lunch, I hopped on my bike and did the opposite.



The ride was very refreshing, and while the water levels, for example along the Kander River, were indeed high

It just so happened that I suddenly found myself heading towards Märkt, which almost automatically meant crossing the Rhine and then cruising along the canal to watch the swans and just let the road roll (on the flat terrain)...



For a long time, it was quite unpleasant on the other side of the Rhine

What is this?



It stretches from north to south, from west to east, and is a beautiful blue!



Haven't seen one like this in ages, a consistently beautiful blue sky, yeah!



The timing was perfect, the bike ride was great fun, everything was great.

A lovely, refreshing walk.



As every year during Carnival season, I was once again slowed down in the woods between the tram tracks and the meadow by groups of Carnival revelers, who were clearly practicing their Guggenmusik performances, accompanied by the usual weekend strollers. This time there were

The Kleinkems church stands there so beautifully, perched majestically on its rock, especially against such a blue sky – it was the highlight of my day in terms of scenery, culture, and local history. I'd never noticed it before; I discovered it today, so to speak. The friendly resident of the garden

The flat tire training session wasn't on the non-existent training plan (double negative – so it was?!?) – but as a gentleman, one generously overlooks it without getting grumpy, enjoys changing the inner tube at the entrance to Badenweiler in six-degree weather thanks to a few gentle rays of sunshine

My standard winter Basel loop today was less about enjoyment and more about satisfying my urge to move after two days of too much sitting.
