"The district of Ründeroth, also known as the "Pearl of the Agger Valley", is located around 40 kilometers east of Cologne in a narrow valley on the Agger. The Ründeroth church was first mentioned in a document in 1174. Ründeroth can therefore look back on over 800 years of history. With the onset of iron smelting in the 15th century, individual farms developed into a settlement around the Ründerother Church and the Agger Bridge. The town also includes the former moated castle Haus Ley, which was demolished in the 17th century, rebuilt as a manor house and is now a farm.
As part of the municipal reorganization, the town was incorporated into the municipality of Engelskirchen in 1975. Engelskirchen is one of the most wooded communities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The forests surrounding the historic town center are ideal for hiking. With currently over 500 members, the Heimat- und Beautification Association of 1866 e.V. Ründeroth (HVV Ründeroth) is the oldest beautification association in the Oberberg district."
