At the time of the landgraves, there was a huge parade hall on the upper palace square.
The first Catholic church was built from the stones of this hall.
It was demolished in 1896 and replaced by a makeshift church; the Pirminius Church was built. On March 15, 1945, the previous building was destroyed by the great air raid on Pirmasens. In 1958 the reconstruction of the church could begin. The plans for this came from the later diocesan building officer Wilhelm Schulte, the son of the architect of the same name who built the destroyed neo-Gothic church (1900). His concern was not to create something completely new, but to rebuild the destroyed church in a contemporary style. Inside, the Church of St. Pirmin contains a forehead relic of Saint Pirmin and a forearm relic of Blessed Paul-Josef Nardini, whose tomb is in the nearby Nardini Chapel.

The church was locked. We went to the parish office (Klosterstraße 7, right next to the church) (as indicated on a notice next to the door), and a friendly staff member opened the door for us.
According to an online search, the parish office hours are Mon. - Wed. from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. / Tues. and Wed. from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Closed on Thursdays! / Fri. from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
