The Luitpoldfelsen was used in the Third Reich by the Hitler Youth as a meeting place. If you stand in front of it, you can see notches on the far right of the rocks, where the pictures of the "Führer" and other mighty gentlemen in survival size were attached. The deforestations date from this time. The rock also served as protection against the attacks of the Allied forces during World War II.
