Long before 1390 there was a place of worship on the site of today's St. Jacob's Church. It was named after the early Christian martyr St. Vitus. Whether it was a monastery church or a castle chapel remains uncertain to this day. When the church became dilapidated in 1707 due to its age, work began on building a new tower. The current church was built between 1727 and 1729. As early as the 17th century it was named after the patron saint of pilgrims, merchants and travelers, St. Jacob.
