The magnificent neoclassical building on the Old Garden houses the main hall of the Mecklenburg State Theater. Since its foundation, the Mecklenburg State Orchestra has been the theater's permanent musical ensemble, the third oldest orchestra in Germany. In 1878, die-hard Wagnerians made a pilgrimage to Schwerin on special trains to experience the opera "Die Walküre" in the "Bayreuth of the North". In the 70s and 80s, Christoph Schroth's drama productions, especially the legendary "Faust" with Lore Tappe as Mephisto, caused a stir in the east and west of Germany. schwerin.m-vp.de/mecklenburgisches-staatstheater-schwerin
