The Soviet memorial on the Anger is part of a Soviet memorial cemetery that was laid out in 1947 for 1,453 fallen Red Army soldiers from the last months of the war, 953 of whom are known by name. The sculpture of a soldier on guard under the coat of arms of the Soviet Union was created by the artist Theodor Peißig. In 1975 a redesign took place by replacing the gravestones that had been standing with lying slabs.
