From 1896 to 1900, the Protestant Christuskirche was built by the two architects Robert Curjel and Karl Moser at the Mühlburger Tor and thus the beginning of the western town. Like the majority of bronze bells in Germany, those of the Christuskirche were melted down for armament purposes during the Second World War. Immediately after the end of the war, the church was rebuilt and from 1985 to 1988 the original spire was reconstructed.
