Le quai Vauban is a quay built at the end of the 17th century along the left bank of the Doubs in Besançon. The quay is named after the famous military engineer and architect Sébastien le Preste de Vauban, who was responsible for many of the city's fortifications. The quay consists of a series of houses with arcades, made of gray-blue stone from Chailluz, which form a harmonious whole. The quay was originally intended as part of the city wall, but later became a pedestrian area with a beautiful view of the river.
