The nature restoration work on the Scherpenbergloop and Kwachtloop streams in Meerhout has been completed. The two watercourses were too deep in the landscape and discharged too much water. This caused the surrounding valley to suffer, especially during droughts. Thanks to the work, the valley now remains wetter, even in dry weather. The natural swamp forests and marsh marigold grasslands can now benefit from improved conditions. These landscape types help retain water reserves.
