This bridge takes its name from the stubbornness of policymakers over the past centuries. The bridge crosses not only the Zeeploop canal, but also the border between Geel and Meerhout. The authorities constantly argued about who should bear the maintenance costs of this drainage canal. Building a bridge was never even discussed.

The thaw followed in the 1980s when both communities agreed to build a cross-border hiking network. A small concrete bridge sealed the peace. Geel paid for the bridge, and Meerhout installed a bench.

The locals proved that the bridge's construction was more than a trivial matter. Over 700 hikers showed up for the inauguration in 1982.
