The place owes its name to the city of Valence, indeed during his stay in Vannes, Saint Vincent Ferrier would have lived in a house on this place. In any case, one thing is certain, it is at the corner of rue Noé that you can admire the famous sculpture of “Vannes and his wife”.

The construction of the old houses is admirable.

The history of Valencia Square is linked to that of a house demolished at the end of the 19th century, which gives it its current configuration and its status as a square. The cadastral plans of 1809 and 1844 still show us the presence of this house, attached to the current number 17 of rue des Orfèvres. An old photo taken by Camille Enlart allows us to visualize it before it was destroyed at the end of the 19th century or at the very beginning of the 20th century. In this way, the demolition of this house shows how significant the traffic problems were within the city limits at the time. Rue des Orfèvres formed a chicane at this point. The square is today the crossroads of several streets: des Orfèvres, des Halles and rue Noé. Its name is the homeland of Saint Vincent Ferrier, given in 1956 after the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of his canonization. A fountain was built to the northeast of the square at the end of the last century.
