Very disappointing weather until about 1 p.m., with cold and thick fog (even though it was very nice and warm in Nantes) then a beautiful sunny afternoon saved this day of bike exploration for which I had been preparing the route for months 🙂

Nantes - Mouchamps
Découverte de la "petite cité de caractère" de Mouchamps en Vendée.
Trace très longue et variée, avec seulement cinq ascensions notables mais néanmoins une accumulation importante de dénivelé au fil des kilomètres, habituelle dans ces régions malplates que sont le Vignoble Nantais et le Bocage Vendéen.

Very happy with my performance over this distance, which I finished not as tired as expected, despite the great heat (30.2 degrees measured at the nearby Les Herbiers station, on October 6th!).
Unfortunately, a big, very stupid fall somewhat tarnished this beautiful day 😒

Il faut se fixer des challenges dans la vie... et "finir" la voie verte Carquefou-Candé avec sa centaine (?) de barrières à franchir faisait partie des miens.
Je m'étais préparé psychologiquement à cet interminable slalom de 49 km et quelle ne fut pas ma surprise de découvrir qu'après St Mars…

- Even if Candé doesn't deserve a 140 km round trip and crossing a hundred barriers, there is some interesting built heritage.
- Really liked the small village of Freigné which deserves a detour from the greenway: its church, its manor, beautiful houses and a lovely pond on the Erdre

La Baule - Penestin - Redon (TRAIN)
Trace essentiellement gravel/route, avec quelques courts passages VTT, suivant vaguement la V45 (la Littorale (qui s'appelle la Vélocéan en Loire-Atlantique, faut suivre...) entre St Molf et Arzal puis la V42 (la Manche-Océan (ou Rance et Vilaine)) entre Arzal et Redon.
Au programme : visite de la "petite cité de caractère"…

Happy to have been able to visit Guérande this time. In June I had to skip this visit due to lack of time (my outbound train had been very delayed :-(
It's very possible that I'll be back in the area quickly to explore the Penestin sector or even further north.

Châteaubriant - La Roche-aux-Fées (TRAIN)
Longue boucle au départ de Châteaubriant, pas mal basée sur la Régalante et la véloroute départementale VD6 pour un détour important pour voir le dolmen de la Roche aux Fées.

Angers - Laval (Train)
Parcours suivant la voie verte Vélo Francette entre Angers et Laval, avec quelques excursions pour visiter villages, abbaye et châteaux.
Toutes ces excursions valaient le coup et m'ont ravi les yeux (un peu déçu par Château-Gontier ceci dit) mais ajoutent pas mal de kilomètres et surtout un peu de dénivelé…

Some menhirs are really massive and worth seeing. Others are less impressive. And there are two that I simply didn't find, probably buried under vegetation. Too bad.
