The consular gate was the main entrance to the city from the south side. It is made of blocks of white Subasio stone, polished and bonded together without mortar. With three arches, it is an example of a porta ad cavaedium, i.e. with a kind of courtyard between the inner and outer arches. The central arch was used for the passage of carriages, while the two smaller side arches were pedestrian entrances. To the south there is a well-preserved medieval tower that flanks the gate.

Cycling

It dates back to the 1st century BC and represented the main entrance to the Roman city. The door has three frames made of Subasio limestone blocks and is equipped with a "cavaedium", essentially an internal courtyard. The gate was intended for defensive uses.
Some marble statues from the Republican age are still visible, found near the Roman amphitheatre, whose ruins are not far away,
which perhaps would have belonged to funerary tombs.
