The city fortifications of Lokets testify to the importance of the city in the Middle Ages. The fortification system was built as early as the 13th century, but its full development took place mainly in the 14th century. In the 17th century, the fortifications were expanded with baroque bastions. The castle wall surrounded the entire city. Today's form of fortification consists of wall fragments, the towers Robičská věž (Workers' Tower) and Černá věž (Black Tower) and five bastions equipped with loopholes. From the second half of the 19th century, parts of the walls were sold to the owners of neighboring houses or demolished. Restoration of the fortifications began in the 1970s. Only between 1990 and 2000 were the preserved parts of the fortifications repaired. This unique fortification system is now freely accessible to the public. Older records indicate that Loket's city wall was in places up to five meters high and about one and a half meters wide. Along the city walls there is a freely accessible gallery with a permanent display of artworks by contemporary artists and photographers.

The town fortification system in Loket was built as early as the 13th century. In the 17th century, the fortifications were expanded to include baroque bastions, which protruded outside the actual wall and thus made it possible to fire on the enemy at the foot of the wall without endangering the own archers. It is estimated that the walls were up to 5 metres high in places and about 1.5 metres wide. The demolition of the main gate of the town, which was part of the so-called Lower Castle, together with the construction of the Chain Bridge, marked the end of the centuries-long isolation of the town of Loket by the armor of the walls. The fortification system had lost its purpose, so the town council decided to remove it in 1850. Parts of the walls were sold to the owners of the neighbouring properties and used as building material. The renovation of the town walls did not begin until the 1970s.
