On the edge of the Gerberbach district, situated on the banks of the Grundelbach stream, which now flows underground, stand the remains of the Witch Tower, built in the 13th century; a former double tower, as indicated by the connecting bridge still visible halfway up. The name only came into use in the 19th century; the city's records contain no evidence of witch trials.
