The soldier's eyes are broken and his face expresses despair. The tear in the face gives the visitor the chance to look inside the soldier's head. The soldier's facial expression warns the visitor: 'Look, it happened to me, but it could happen to you too.' The stones at the foot of the pillar emphasize the solitude of the soldier.

The "Hadwin & Stopher Memorial" is a war memorial on the Waaldijk near Fort Sint Andries in Heerewaarden.
Designed by Martin van den Houd, the memorial was unveiled on October 26, 1999 and consists of a bronze sculpture depicting the face of an English soldier. The sculpture stands on a one and a half meter high concrete pillar. In front of the column is a black marble plaque engraved with the names of four English soldiers who were ambushed and killed near the fort while on patrol from Dreumel on October 26, 1944.
