As a veteran, visiting these crash sites that are evident all over our country gets to be quite emotional. This one is no different. This is a very impressive setting just below Carreg Coch’s vast bulk. My thoughts were with the family of these airmen. RIP flying warriors from far away.

Remains of MF509 that crashed due to icing leading to engine failure, with the death of all six crewmen.

Note that this is a war grave and a war memorial, so please be respectful around the wreckage.

Very easy to access, with clear trails leading there. The wreckage is quite clear as Canadians have placed flags on it as it was crewed by Canadians. There is a large amount remaining, particularly striking are the large metal wing spars left. If you follow the trail West, you can see further pieces of the aircraft from where it initially struck the ground.

It's an easy hike to the wreckage, the easiest one in the Beacons to get to. Would recommend visiting it if you are in the region of the Black Mountains, well worth going to pay respects.
