The sculpture "The Reader" sits opposite the Mayersche bookstore in Aachen.
Wolf Ritz built the bronze sculpture in 1985 to mark the opening of the Treffen Taschenbuch bookstore in the Mayer bookstore. The bronze figure is a lady seated on a stone plinth, engrossed in the book opened in front of her. With this work, the German sculptor wants to draw attention to the need to deal with spiritual values.

The area around the "The Reading" is the highlight, because there are so many interesting things to see between the cathedral and the Eliesenbrunnen

The bronze sculpture was unveiled in 1985.
It used to be located in the Literature Garden (an open terrace on the top floor of the bookstore).
Today it sits opposite the bookstore.
