    Location where Bartholdi attended school.
From high school, Bartholdi finds himself on the Oberhof, Carolinian domain at the origin of Colmar. On this site where the Benedictine priory of Saint-Pierre stood, the Jesuits founded the city's first French school in the 18th century. When the Society of Jesus was dissolved in 1764, its establishment became a royal college. The records room and library in the neoclassical style date from this period, works by the architect Pierre Michel d'Ixnard, who built them between 1785 and 1787.

After becoming a national university in 1791, it began operating until 1856 and the Second Empire before acquiring high school status. In 1919 was founded the name Lycée Bartholdi, named after the illustrious Colmarian.

Located in the heart of the old town of Colmar, the Lycée Bartholdi is a place with a strong cultural and historical identity due to its origins as a Carolingian domain. The Jesuits founded the first grammar school there in Colmar in the 18th century, then the institution successively became the Royal College in 1765, National College in 1791, Ecole Centrale du Haut-Rhin in 1796, then Imperial High School in 1856 under Napoleon III after incorporation into the German Empire it became the "Imperial Gymnasium".

By ministerial decree of December 13, 1919, the school was named in honor of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.
