Fort Santo Alberto on Pessegueiro Island and Fort of Nossa Senhora da Queimada near Pessegueiro Beach are a defensive structure built to protect this coast from piracy. The construction of these two forts began in the Philippine period around 1588 but did not finish until 1690 after the restoration of Portuguese independence.

The 1755 earthquake caused considerable damage to this group of forts and although they have been classified as national monuments, they are abandoned.

The fort has no opening hours to the public.

Fort was closed. But looks very beautiful in the sunset light. Various flowers are blooming all around & just beyond in the sea is another fort on an island called "Forte da Ilha de Dentro". It is part of this national monument. The fortifications on the mainland consist of 2 bulwarks and the moat. In the courtyard of the complex there are still former barracks and a chapel.
