I forgot that I had planned this highlight at the end of my tour. Almost as a moral support by anticipation of something cool after my 250-kilometer tour. Therefore, I was quite lost on the banks of the Scheldt and looked for a ferry, until the tunnel came to my mind again. So over on the other side of the street where the entrance is. It all reminded me of the old Elbtunnel in Hamburg. This one is just longer and the escalator is definitely cooler than the elevator. Unfortunately, this drove only until 20 clock, if I remember correctly, so that it was then but a lift ... Otherwise, the tunnel is open 24 hours. Cool thing!

The link between Old and New Antwerp. A tunnel that you have to experience via the escalators.

As early as 1874, the people of Antwerp agreed on a connection between the left and right banks of the city. There were many plans to build a bridge over the Scheldt, but they were always canceled. Especially because a bridge would hinder shipping traffic too much. In the end, it wasn't until 1931 that the decision was made in favor of a tunnel. To this day, most parts of the entrance buildings and the tunnel are still original, from the warning signs to the fences. The tunnel is still used very intensively by people who have to travel from one bank to the other every day.
