Kapitelplatz is a large square south of the Salzburg Cathedral in Salzburg's old town. The spacious square looks east to the cathedral provost and the Archbishop's Palace and to the south to the fortress and the Kapitelschwemme.
    flood of chapters
A little off the main square, the Kapitelschwemme is a reminder of times gone by: Even in the Middle Ages there was a "horse pond" on the Kapitelplatz, at that time still in the middle of the square. The new complex was built under Archbishop Leopold Freiherr von Firmian in 1732 based on a design by Franz Anton Danreiter: the influence of Roman fountain systems is unmistakable. The access for the horses to the water basin leads directly to the sculptural groups. It depicts Neptune, the god of the sea, with a trident and a crown on a water-spouting sea horse. This baroque sculpture was created by Josef Anton Pfaffinger. Above the bellows is a chronogram with Archbishop Firmian's coat of arms.

During the Salzburg Festival, current and previous performances are shown on a screen on Kapitelplatz.
Of course, it's not the experience of a ballroom. Some people come and go during the broadcast, on Saturday morning the stage was not completely silently dismantled by "Jedermann" and the glockenspiel rang in the middle of Gustav Mahler's symphony.
      Nonetheless, a nice implementation.

The sculpture "Sphaera" on the Chapter Square is about nine meters high. It depicts a male figure on a golden sphere with a neutral facial expression. This man could be an "everyman".
