A section of the Roman aqueduct that carried fresh water from the Eifel near Nettersheim over 100 kilometers to Cologne. Long stretches of the Roman Canal flowed underground in a tube made of concrete and stones. This made the line frost-proof. Really remarkable what the Romans built almost 2000 years ago.

This section of the Roman Eifel aqueduct to Cologne was recovered during the construction of the house at Hauptstrasse 81 in Walberberg in 1965 and re-erected here. It shows the type of construction of the Roman canal that is typical for the foothills: a channel made of rammed concrete (Opus caementicium) was sealed on the inside with hydraulic plaster (Opus signinum) and then covered with a vault. The pipe used to be buried in the ground at a frost-free depth. Source: roemerkanal.de/bauwerk
