It was built in the early 18th century after a previous wooden chapel collapsed. The current building dates from 1723 and was later decorated with elaborate frescoes and Rococo-style altars.

The chapel is particularly famous for the annual St. Leonhardifahrt (St. Leonhard's Ride) – a festive horse-drawn procession with blessings, music, and decorated floats, which is deeply rooted in regional tradition.
