Harbor market with trough fountain, Essling am Neckar
Harbor market fountain at the harbor market
The four-pipe fountain was first mentioned in 1564. It adorns one of the most famous old town squares in Esslingen.
In 1465, this location was documented as the Krautmarkt. The fountain, which never changed location, was named "iron Krautmarckbronnen". Later, the central old town square was called the harbor and herb market and the fountain was named the harbor market fountain. The octagonal fountain trough is made of cast iron. The imperial city eagle and ducal crown decorate one side of the trough. Nymph figures are attached to the corners. The fountain column made of Stubensandstein was built in 1717 under Johann Phillipp Weickersreuther. He was the chief building official and at the same time a privy councilor of the city. He was mayor from 1724 to 1734. His initials are on the pole. 60 years later, the fountain post was renewed by the city's foreman Michael Rotacker, giving the fountain its current shape. The fountain was renovated in 1902 and 1977.
It is fed by the Maienwalter spring.
