    Postmichel fountain, Essling am Neckar
The Postmichel fountain is located in the center of the old town and is the most important fountain in the history of Esslingen.
This location was the main route between Flanders and Northern Italy, the so-called trade route, which ran close to the shops in Esslingen. Coming from the Inner Bridge from Pliensau, there had been a bend in the road towards Ritterstrasse since the Middle Ages. This is why this fountain location was named Kaufbrunnen. The fountain kept this name until the 15th century.
In 1519, the Kaufbrunnen was renamed Fischmarktbrunnen. Not surprising, since the city fishermen lived near the Roßneckar and used the fountain trough as a fish box. When the classicist fish market fountain with its stone column was no longer in keeping with its time in 1878, it was moved to the "branch" in Wäldenbronn and expanded into an eight-pipe fountain.
A richly decorated cast-iron water bowl with a diameter of three meters was placed in the old town's prominent square. Donated by the widow Anna Hecker as a legacy from her husband, the senior public prosecutor Robert von Hecker. As early as 1915, a new donation from an Esslingen factory owner and former student of today's Georgii-Gymnasium allowed a change to be made to this spot. He erected a monument to the most popular legendary figure in Esslingen - the post rider Michel Banhard from Deggingen. The fountain location was given a new name and appearance by the Cannstatt sculptor Emil Kiemlen. The sculptor captured the most popular Esslingen legendary figure of Postmichel in four reliefs on the outside of the natural trough. They show how the postman finds the ring and how he shows it off in the pub. His execution is also depicted and how he appears to the citizens as a ghost with his head under his arm on Michaelmas night. On the stone fountain column, the postman is depicted in bronze on a horse with a horn in his hand.
The cast-iron fountain was then given its place in the Klaraanlage.
