    Ritterstein 301 Hohe Derst
The Hohe Derst is 561 meters high and is therefore the highest elevation in the southeastern Palatinate Forest. The name of the mountain can probably be traced back to “dorsum” (Latin for “back”).
When the West Wall was built, the northernmost part of the Hohe Derst was included in the defensive line. There were five combat bunkers on the mountain's plateau. In the last months of the war this place was fiercely contested. Is still used today by a mobile phone provider and BOS.

On the summit of the Hohe Derst there is a radio tower used for military purposes. This was initially used by NATO, was abandoned after the end of the Cold War and is still used today by a mobile phone provider and BOS.
Just a little below the summit is a transmitter belonging to Südwestrundfunk, which used to supply large parts of the Southern Palatinate and Wasgau with analogue television and was switched off with the switch to DVB-T. Radio stations were also planned here to provide this area with the Rhineland-Palatinate programs SWR1 Rheinland-Pfalz and SWR4 Rheinland-Pfalz, which cannot otherwise be received in the region, but this did not happen.
