In the beguinage, the graceful Symforosa stands next to St Margaret's Church. She is the main character in the novella by Felix Timmermans De very clean hours of Juffrouw Symforosa and falls in love with the gardener Martienus, but he leaves Lier to become a brother. Symforosa gets permission to visit him and then understands that he is now happy without her.

In the beguinage is a statue of Symforosa, after the novella The very beautiful hours of Juffrouw Symforosa, begijntjen (1918) by the Lierse author Felix Timmermans. The 'beautiful hours' refer to the love that the young religious lady feels for the gardener, who does not realize that she has a crush on him and becomes a brother.
