      Wehning castle

Here once stood the castle Wehningen. Unfortunately it was demolished to DDR. Today, only the left-over portal reminds of this time and incidentally offers a beautiful photo backdrop.

Wehningen is a village in the Tripkau district of the Amt Neuhaus municipality in Lower Saxony. The town is six kilometers east of Hitzacker on the opposite bank of the Elbe at the mouth of the Löcknitz in the Lower Saxony Elbtalaue biosphere reserve.

Wehningen borders on the Rüterberg district of the Mecklenburg country town of Dömitz.

As part of the territorial changes in Mecklenburg, Wehningen was incorporated into Tripkau on July 1, 1950. After German reunification, the town moved on June 30, 1993 from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Lower Saxony in the district of Lüneburg.

In the center of the village is the simple Church of Wehningen. Noteworthy are the alabaster reliefs of the altarpiece from the 16th century.

Only an archway remains from the former Wehningen Castle.
