The Schützenbrunnen is located on the upper Marktstraße in front of the basilica and the Tabalugahaus. The fountain, built in 1997, is a gift from the Duderstadt rifle club to the city of Duderstadt. This is also indicated by the inscription around the edge of the base: "929 - city and Schützen firmly connected - an ever strong bond - 1302".
The artistic design for this comes from the sculptor Rudi Pabel from Kaiserslautern.

The inscription "City and marksmen firmly connected - an eternally strong bond" underlines the strong bond between the shooting club and the city and its citizens.

In July 1997, the Duderstadt Shooting Club presented the Marksmen's Fountain, unique in Germany, on Marktstraße (pedestrian zone) to the city of Duderstadt, with the participation of the President of the German Shooting Federation, Mr. Josef Ambacher.

The fountain was entirely financed through private donations from Duderstadt's shooting friends. The presentation to the city of Duderstadt marked the 750th anniversary of Duderstadt's city charter and was therefore a special event.

The fountain comes from Rudi Pabel atelierlaubbach.de/kuenstler_pabel.htm - his Amazon in the background seems to be the most popular photo motif.
