Today's Great Cascade was created as a grotto during the second construction phase of the Palaisgarten and complements the various water features on the site. A small cascade can be found directly next to the basin of the fountain pond on the lowest level of the Palaisgarten, the eastern end of which is marked by the Great Cascade. The water features of both cascades and the fountain pond are activated at intervals and, like the other objects in the Palaisgarten, are illuminated at dusk.
