Behind the "Hiddeser Bent" there is a high moor located in the southwest of Detmold. It is also the last living hillside moor in the Teutoburg Forest, which slowly merges into the Egge Mountains. The moor was interesting for the people in the 16th century because of the peat, which they mined there over decades and used as fuel. The region around the moor has been a nature reserve since 1950 and can be explored via various hiking trails.
