On the Hohe Warte you will find one of the rare mountain heaths that are widespread in the heights of the Teutoburg Forest (further east before Holzhausen the bird baptism, east of the Externsteinen the mountain heath Knickenhagen). Until around 1900, the Teuto ridge was almost completely covered by mountain heaths, which have since become forested. The remaining remains must be grazed regularly. That's what the Biological Station Lippe does.
