Carlsfeld station is part of the former Wilkau-Hasslau-Schönheide-Carlfeld narrow-gauge railway. The route was the first, steepest and longest of the Saxon narrow-gauge railways and was used from 1881-1977. There was a plan to rebuild the Schönheide-Carlsfeld section, but unfortunately this has failed so far.

The area at the station was redesigned. A hiking trail leads from the train station to the "Großer Kranichsee" high moor and to the Carlsfeld dam. Parking spaces are available on the station forecourt.

Hiking

Today the station area is used by the FHWE, which has rebuilt the tracks in a different form. While the boiler house is still largely in its original condition, the brickwork of the goods shed has been plastered. Of the siding, only the bridge arch under the Morgenröther Straße remains; the rest, like the glassworks, has been demolished.
