The complex with 44 courtyard houses around a small square with a park was built in the early thirties of the 20th century, in a regional variant of the Amsterdam School. The whole consists of two elongated blocks, a closing block and a higher closing block with two entrance gates surmounted by houses. The houses on Sint-Jacobshof seem large, but behind each door are four houses.
